Your Questions About Ironman Triathlons

Sharon asks…

How do I determine the tire size of my mountain bike tires?

I have a Huffy “Ironman Triathlon Pro” 21 speed mountain bike that I got a few years ago. My back tire is pretty worn and I need to replace it.

I went online to browse bike tires and there are so many sizes and variations, can someone please tell me how to figure out what size tire I need? Is it as simple as measuring the wheel that it’s on?

Thank you!

Mike Rich answers:

First number is wheel diameter ie 26″; 2nd number is width is 1.9 =1.9″ wide…
Get a 26 x 1.9 you will like it. I would guess you can go as wide as 2.1 with that Huffy.
Heres one on sale for $5

How long does it take to recover from a concussion?

I had an accident while biking almost two weeks ago. I was training for an Ironman triathlon and based on my doctor’s recommendation I withdrew from the race. He told me I shouldn’t swim or ride my bike for six weeks. It’s only been two and I’m dying because I’m out of my training routine. I feel much better and want to try to swim and am ready to ride my bike again.

Mike Rich answers:

It could be a few hours to a couple of weeks. If you do decide to go back (because of your runners high) take it slow. Drink a lot of water. If you feel tired SLOW DOWN. I am not a doctor. My family and I have pretty much had a concussion at least once in a life time.

What is the best way to maintain my body?

For the past six months I have worked my @$$ off getting the body i’ve always wanted. 6’0, 195lbs, 8% body fat. This is due to a strict regime of weight lifting and training for an Ironman Triathlon, which was extremely tough. I want to know what is the minimum amount of exercise I can do to maintain my body the exact way it is. If I cut back on the cardio and don’t lift as often, will my body go back to the way it used to be?

Mike Rich answers:

Can’t say I am very sure but I have always been told that it is all 35% exercise and 65% diet – that is how you maintain your weight or figure in my case!
